Meet the Animals
Zorina “Zo”
Sharp albino boa · Boa constrictor
Sorbet colors and a big appetite. Zorina, “Zo” for short, is a female Purple Pastel Keltic Sharp albino het Blood boa, born in 2023 in Denmark, with what Gilly calls “the most insane colors.”
The genes
A recipe for color
Sharp albino is an albino line with no black pigment at all. Keltic is a Colombian pattern trait known for connected saddles. Purple Pastel is a line-bred look with soft lavender tones and less black. “Het Blood” means Zo carries one hidden copy of the recessive Blood gene. She doesn't show it herself, but she can pass it to her babies. Visual Blood boas show boosted reds and oranges.
Big plans
A future first?
Zo is sweet and very food driven, and she never says no to rats and hamsters. Gilly hopes she'll produce some world's-first babies soon, so stay tuned. Like all boas, any little ones would be born, not hatched!
Field notes
About boa constrictors
- Boas give birth to live babies instead of laying eggs, often around 25 at a time.
- Boa constrictors range from Mexico through Central and South America to Argentina.
- They're nonvenomous constrictors: they hold on and squeeze.
- With good care they can live 20–30 years, and sometimes even longer.
- Zo was born, not hatched: boas give live birth.
