Special Guest
Sammy
Blue piebald dachshund · Canis familiaris
Seven pounds of pure chaos and love. Sammy is Gilly's blue piebald dachshund, about 11 months old, and the crew's very first Special Guest.
Personality
Small dog, big bodyguard
Sammy loves to climb and jump on everything he shouldn't, and he is ultra protective of his family. At about 7 pounds, he's convinced he's the toughest one in the house. Gilly says he's hilarious.
Baby Sammy
Chewer-in-chief
Here's baby Sammy, already up to no good. Leave a toy unattended and he will chew it up. Consider yourself warned.
Baby Sammy
Will work for treats
Sammy is an absolute fiend for treats. One look at those eyes and you'll understand how he gets so many.
Field notes
About dachshunds
- “Dachshund” is German for “badger dog.” The breed was developed in Germany to hunt badgers.
- Dachshunds come in three coat types: smooth, longhaired and wirehaired.
- Piebald is a pattern, not a color: clearly defined patches of white on a one- or two-colored dog.
- Blue is a “dilute” version of black. In some dilute dogs, including dachshunds, it comes with color dilution alopecia.
- Color dilution alopecia is inherited, not contagious, and is managed with simple skin care.
